Today we were at Whaleback Mountain, New Hampshire, for two boardercross events. For the first competition, Emilie came in 2nd for the Youth Women and Allison came in 3rd. For the Youth Men, Max came in 2nd, and for the Junior Men Eddie came in 6th. For the second competition Emilie came in 1st and Allison came in 3rd for the Youth Women, Max came in 6th for the Youth Men, and Eddie came in 6th for the Junior Men. Max probably would have done better, but Kyle Anderson from the club and him collided and Max sliced Kyle’s thumb. Victoria was not able to come today due to strep. It was a fun day, and we all had a good time…

Today we went to Sunapee Mountain in New Hampshire. We had our first slopestyle and halfpipe of the season. For the slopestyle, it was Allison’s first ever and she won youth women, Emilie in second and Victoria third. For the Youth Men, Max got 4th and for the Junior Men Eddie came in 6th. For the Halfpipe, Victoria won the Youth Women, Emilie came in second and Max got 5th for the Youth Men. Allison and Eddie did not compete in the Halfpipe today. Both yesterday and today we hung out with the people from the club and had a lot of fun. It was nice and snowy today making it feel like winter…

Emilie apparently was a bit jealous when Allison arrived at KMS with her tales of Dunkin' Donuts this morning...

The KMS Snowboard Team was five strong today. The team trained in the Timberline Park all morning and managed to capture most of the days events on video. Riders were mainly working on perfecting slopestyle runs in preparation for their competition on Sunday. Pictured above is some of the teams reaction during video review break in the lodge. Below you will find a video clip of some of their efforts... enjoy. The team plans on logging in some training time in the halfpipe tomorrow at Bear.

Wednesday started out with clear skies and lots of sunshine. We headed to Ram's Head for some slopestyle and boardercross training in preparation for this weekends double boardercross at Whaleback Mountain and slopestyle/halfpipe at Sunapee, NH. Skills worked on included... balance, edging, and speed. Featured above is a clip from one of Allison's runs through the Timberline Park. The temperatures were chilly and we were unfortunate to be on the Ram's Head chair when it decided to break down... brrr! We did however get free vouchers for hot cocoa and happily redeemed them at the end of training.

1-22-2008 1st Day of Pipe!

Pictured Above: Max airing out of the pipe

Another beautiful day riding! Blue sunny skies and good snow. The team had a guest appearance today by Will Mercer, a rider with the killington ski club. Time was spent at the Dreammaker Park and in the newly first cut half pipe. Everyone was getting big air on the jumps and working on boardercross skills. It was a great morning - video highlights of today will be posted shortly!

Side note - Eddie made "The Buzz" on http://www.killington.com/winter/index.html - footage can be seen of him buttering at the top of Killington Peak.

GS training was held on Bunny Buster. We took many laps through the gates and focused mostly on line. There was also time spent on getting better edge control on the heel-side edge. Remember to step on the gas! Great day... great improvements.

1-16-2008

Wednesday training started out like no other... the sun was shinning, temps were low, so we headed over to the Bear Park to warm up our morning. We made sure to take a couple of runs to the Skyship so we could admire the speed work of our fellow athletes whom choose to chase gates on two sticks. The girls and boys J1 and J2's were training Super G on Needles Eye. Mountain conditions were not the best for park but we still hit Rainbow Rail and triple jump set. Max rode his lonely UNinc tray with new binders and was pleased with its performance. He even surprised himself when he nearly exploded upon impact from clearing the landing on the second hit in the park, but he still managed to hold on through the set. The team is planning on training gates tomorrow in preparation for Sunday's second installment of the Central Vermont Series Slalom and GS at Whaleback Mountain, NH.

The Coldest Day of 2008

Once again we were short players today... seems as if cold season is in full swing. Not only were some riders out due to colds, but it was extremely cold today. Eddie and Allison were very excited to train gates on Highline today, with added optimism with the extreme cold weather... it was -1 degree when we drove up to the mountain! We managed to get some riding in the gates but it was short lived with the fact that frostbite was showing up on our faces. We ended up cutting on hill training short and did one of our weight training workouts in the comforts of the school gym. Hopefully we will beat the cold and colds and have everybody back on the snow tomorrow.

1st Day of Training 2008

Today's training was a great start to the new year even though the team was minus a few players. It was just Max and Allison on the hill today training GS on Bunny Buster. The temperatures were dropping but the snow conditions were perfect for our first official day back on the hill. Today's practice was in preparation for this weekends competition at Pico. It is the official start of the Central Vermont Series and there will be a slalom and gs race held there on Sunday. A reminder to all... we will be registering 'day of' for the competitions, so make sure to bring cash or a check, along with your USASA membership card or number. Plan on bringing/riding your speed boards the rest of the week and don't forget to have your boards race ready(sharpened and waxed) for the comp on Sunday. More gates tomorrow and colder temperatures... so dress accordingly!
